Mining and Non-Ferrous Metals Industry

Luft Filter delivers consistent, reliable, and high performance even under the most demanding process conditions.

The non-ferrous metal industry—covering the smelting and refining of metals such as lead, copper, zinc, nickel, and aluminum—presents a highly demanding filtration environment due to abrasive dust, heavy metals, sulfur compounds, and elevated temperatures. To reduce the environmental impact of these processes and ensure operational continuity, filter bags must be carefully selected based on specific process conditions.

In non-ferrous metal production, dust and gas emissions must be controlled at multiple stages, including ore crushing and conveying systems, smelting furnaces, refining units, drying and cooling systems, flue gas treatment lines, and general dedusting systems.

Each application requires tailored filtration solutions due to its unique combination of particle size, gas composition, and temperature level.

Filtration Applications in Non-Ferrous Metal Production

Smelting Furnaces (Flash, Waelz, Electric Arc)

Considering the high operating temperatures (>160 °C) and the presence of metallic dust along with compounds such as SO₂, Pb, and ZnO, filter bags made of Aramid, PPS, P84, or PTFE are preferred. Depending on the gas composition, an anti-acid coating option is also recommended for enhanced chemical resistance.

Lead and Zinc Production

These processes require high filtration efficiency to capture toxic metal dusts such as lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd). Filter bags made of Aramid or PTFE are commonly used due to their superior temperature and chemical resistance.

Dust Handling and Crushing Units

In these medium-temperature (<130 °C) processes where mechanical abrasion is significant, high-strength polyester or acrylic filter bags are recommended. For areas with a dust explosion risk, antistatic fabric options are essential to ensure operational safety.

Cooling and Drying Systems

Processes with thermal fluctuations and humidity exposure require filter bags made of PPS, acrylic, or PTFE-blended polyester materials. These systems typically operate at low to medium temperatures (100–180 °C).

General Dedusting Applications

For auxiliary equipment and conveying systems that generate localized dust throughout the plant, surface-treated polyester filter bags provide a durable and cost-effective filtration solution.

Luft Filtre’s Expertise in the Aluminum and Metallurgy Industry

In metallurgical processes such as aluminum, copper, lead, and zinc production, filtration systems must withstand high temperatures, metallic dust, corrosive gases, and abrasive process residues — all of which demand specialized filtration solutions.

At Luft Filtre, we design and manufacture filter bags tailored specifically for these demanding conditions, offering:

  • Continuous temperature resistance up to 260 °C

  • Chemical durability against fluoride and chloride compounds

  • High surface filtration efficiency

For smelting furnaces, annealing kilns, and electrolysis lines, our engineering team conducts detailed process analyses to ensure the optimal material selection, precise filter sizing, and ventilation system optimization.

We support system continuity through on-site installation assistance, online performance monitoring, and periodic maintenance services—ensuring both operational safety and emission control.

With Luft Filtre’s expertise, metallurgical plants achieve fewer breakdowns, longer filter life, and more sustainable production performance.
